Welcome to a new school year!

Hello, everyone!

Our media center staff is so excited about starting a new school year!  We have been working hard to prepare for this new year.  Mrs. Sikes has been working with teachers to plan for instructional technology projects!  One fifth grade class will be working on blogging and using wikis to share information.  Several third grade classes will be using the media center to begin an information literacy skills book study starting in early September.  We will also be working on Media Festival projects with interested students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Students in 4th and 5th grade can work toward becoming part of our school’s Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team.

We have started our school year with a bang by seeing 8 classes on Friday!  We saw 2 kindergarten classes, 2 first grade classes, 2 second grade classes, and 2 fifth grade classes.  The students were genuinely excited about checking out library books and most seemed to enjoy our orientation video.  We also asked fifth grade students if they had read some of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl books over the summer.  It was wonderful to find out that six students had read at least one of the books and one of those students is working on her third book!  Hooray!  Many students were eager to begin reading the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl titles and checked them out on Friday!

It’s going to be a fantastic year in the media center!

  1. If our school didn’t have computers it would be a whole lot different than it is today. Without computers we wouldn’t be able to learn as fast as we can learn today. Computers help us a lot. They give us imformation easier than just sitting there trying to figure out what the teacher is talking about. But have you ever thought about this, you wouldn’t be able to check out books without computers. Have you ever thought about that?
